Foça is a coastal town in İzmir whose name comes from the seals that still inhabit its shores. Known as "Phokaia" in antiquity, this ancient harbour city later came to be known as Foça, while maintaining its historical identity over the centuries.
Narrow streets lined with colourful stone houses reflect a lived-in sense of continuity rather than a staged past. Shaped by the Mediterranean climate, Foça stands out with its deep blue sea and officially recognised clean bays.
Karakum Beach, Burunucu Beach, Kosova Beach, and Mersinaki Cove define the town’s shoreline, offering spaces not only for swimming but also for an enjoyable time by the water. Foça yoghurt holds a special place among regional products. Ice cream, especially mastic and honey almond flavours, is widely preferred.
